Pharmacy technicians have an essential role in helping licensed
pharmacists prepare prescription medications and assisting in
pharmacy operations.
pharmacy technology
In the Pharmacy Technology Occupational Endorsement Certificate (OEC) program, you鈥檒l
develop the skills you need to work under the supervision of a pharmacist. Courses
cover topics in compounding and mixing medications, preparing and delivering medications
to patients, ordering supplies, using equipment and maintaining confidential patient
records.
Upon successful completion of the OEC, students will be well-prepared to work in various
settings as a pharmacy technician and to successfully sit for the national Pharmacy
Technician Certification Board examination (PTCB). They will also have a solid background
to continue further study in the field of pharmacy, pursuing a pre-pharmacy degree
and ultimately a Doctor of Pharmacy degree.
The occupational endorsement is not contingent upon the student passing any type of
external certification or licensure examination. Students should note that although
this program has no age restrictions, the state of Alaska requires that all pharmacy
technicians be at least 18 years of age prior to licensure.

licensure or certification in Alaska. However, the program might not meet the educational
